Kornel Miglus
Kornel Miglus (*1957, Tarnowskie Góry, Poland) studied philosophy, linguistics and psychology. He lives and works in Berlin. In 1991, he received his PhD from the Institute of AI at the FU Berlin, from 1996-97 he was editor at the radio programme SFB-MulitkKulti, from 1997-98 he was a lecturer at the Humboldt University in Berlin, from 1997-99 he ran the workshop “Documentary Film as Crisis Management” and since 2003, he has been managing director at VACANT Filmproduktion. He has also held the post of film commissioner of the Polish Institute Berlin since 1994, and since 2005, has curated the filmPOLSKA festival in Berlin. Kornel Miglus is the author of several documentaries and film projects.
Margit Schild
Margit Schild is a filmmaker, artist and curator. She shot her first video after completing her PhD at the University of Hanover. She has worked as a lecturer and guest professor at various universities, including the Emily Carr University in Vancouver. In 2015, she directed her first documentary film Drifting on flight and migration. In 2017, she curated an international symposium on “Improvisation” at the HKW Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of World Cultures) in Berlin. The documentary Orten is her first full-length film. She lives and works in Berlin and Canada.
Elmar Szücs
Elmar Szücs is a filmmaker and video designer from Hamburg. He discovered his enthusiasm for storytelling as a cinema projectionist and assistant theatre director. He then worked as a camera assistant for several years before studying documentary film at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Since then, he has worked as a director and editor in Berlin. His films have been shown at the Berlinale, Viennale, Taipei Film Festival and Festival du Cinéma de Brive. The film Wir sind schon mittendrin was nominated for the German Documentary Film Award and received a prize from the Landesfilmdienst Rheinland-Pfalz and a grant award from Baden-Württemberg’s film industry. In addition to documentaries, his second great passion is theatre, having worked as a video designer at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, Schauspiel Hannover and Staatstheater Mainz with the directors Marie Bues and André Rößler.
Maryam Tafakory
Maryam Tafakory (*Shiraz, Iran) is an artist and filmmaker based in London. Her work draws on womanhood and rites of passage, interweaving poetry, (self)-censorship and religion, combining a formal minimalist syntax and figurative mode of representation. She completed her MFA from Oxford University. Her works have been exhibited internationally, including at the IFFR in Rotterdam, the EIFF in Edinburgh, the Zurich Film Festival, the MIFF in Melbourne, the ZINEBI, the IKFF in Hamburg, the ICA, BFI and Barbican Centre in London, the Kurzfilmtage in Winterthur, the Ji.hlava IDFF, and the New York UnionDocs. She has received several awards for her films.
Daniel Yacavone
Daniel Yacavone is a senior lecturer (associate professor) in film studies at the University of Edinburgh, where he teaches and writes on modern/contemporary European and North American cinema, film theory, the philosophy of film and art, and intermediality, among other subjects. He is currently working on a book on reflexive cinema. In 2020, he will be a senior fellow at the Center for Advanced Film Studies (Cinepoetics) at the Free University Berlin (FU), and a fellow-in-residence at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS) in Amsterdam.
