Entitled "Nighthawks", Edward Hopper’s emblematic painting depicts lonely night owls in the neon light of a bar. In his documentary, filmmaker Benjamin Rost also devotes himself to nightcrawlers, the "nightwanderers", who buzz around in the neon lights of a motorway service area between Nuremberg and Würzburg: a lonely gay man in search of quick sex; a hitchhiking musician; a singing former truck driver; or the employee of a porn cinema. The film team lived on-site in a van for six weeks to capture everything. The result is a kaleidoscopic look into a very special microcosm.
