COMPETITION 4 I WETTBEWERB 4: Apocalypse now

In A Lion I Wnętrze lwa

Poland, 2018, 11‘46‘‘, Danish, English | English subtitles

In former times, man was confronted with harsh nature. It was a matter of braving the dangers of cold temperatures, diseases, forces of nature or wild animals. In A Lion shows the public dissection of a lion in a Danish zoo in front of a group of small children. An absurd spectacle is presented which, with a smile and a didactic claim, is intended to distract from the actually hard work and trade of butchery. And also from the fact that at the end, the remains of the lion are thrown into a plastic garbage can. Man has reversed nature's power balance in his favour, now he is threatened only by his own kind.

The fact that a Danish zoo displays the slaughter of a lion publicly and in front of small children is, of course, a very cinematic subject. Especially because this lion ends up in a black plastic barrel.
